GCPS to roll out Books on Break at four elementary schools
Butner-Creedmoor News
Granville County Public Schools will roll out Books on Break at four elementary schools this month.
Books on Break, developed by the Triangle-based literacy organization Book Harvest, provides elementary students with the opportunity to select 10 brand-new books, at no cost, to take home and keep forever. The program is designed to build strong home libraries, encourage summer reading and help prevent the loss of literacy skills during the long summer break.
Students can choose from a wide selection of high-interest titles in both English and Spanish, ensuring that all young readers can find books that excite and inspire them.
This program is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Granville County Public Schools, Granville County Government, and the sponsorship of Blue Cross Blue Shield.
GCPS will provide Books on Break in May at the following schools:
C.G. Credle Elementary — May 12.
West Oxford Elementary and Stovall-Shaw Elementary — May 13.
Mount Energy Elementary — May 16.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction & Student Services Jamar Perry stated, “I am proud to support the Books on Break initiative in partnership with Book Harvest. This program equips students with high-interest books to take home, encouraging literacy growth over the summer. By expanding access to quality reading materials, we are investing in early literacy and building strong foundations for academic success. It is my hope that we can expand this program to ALL of our elementary schools in the coming years.”
